Announcing! The 2026 OBRA CX Championship, CX Bike Indy!
Please watch/revisit this space in the build up to race day! More information will be added as it’s confirmed!
All, this event is by and for OBRA -- by and for us! We at Team S&M and Sellwood Cycle Repair are but your messengers!
After our very successful inaugural event last November, we're back for more -- but barely! As you may know, the sudden parks closures and services reductions at the City of Independence late this summer lost us Riverview Park, our top-tier venue there. But all hope was not lost! In turn, the prospect of the city losing the event spurred them into action. We OBRA racers were, in fact, an integral part of their solution: the city won a short-term grant to keep the park open thru the end of the year -- and to therefore keep us! It feels good to be wanted, doesn't it?
But l'll get into the racing. After so much consideration, the detail to know is that all "medaled" OBRA championships races will be on Saturday. Registration is open HERE! (Sunday will be different -- more soon on that.)
Next is that the infamous "bog" will not feature in the course this year! Please know that last year we'd built a trail that went around it -- I just didn't use it! (I know -- I'm a crank sometimes.) The bog was a highlight of the day -- but it was just "a lot", too. It was both for me, and so I don't plan to get in it again. The weather could have final say, tho.)
We also have major new course features. Just this week and with the help of the city, we earned a permit from ODOT for a shoulder closure along Main St and the Independence Highway 51. This allows us to still race thru the amphitheater -- but then turn up and west into the city, head ~300 meters north along the road, and finally dive east into the flat, grass park zone -- as opposed to the turn down and east from the city to the first of the two crosses over the Ash Creek bridge. (We can loop the course without crossing the bridge twice per lap!)
Less exciting but very functionally useful is that the paved approach to the amphitheater will be wider than last year because we can use more of the parking lot. Also, the trails we built last year have been used ever since the event and are naturally wider -- but there will still be narrow spots to get to first, as that's the game we play. (Plus, we just like trails because they're good.)
It's a special parcours in a very, very special place.
Stay tuned for many more event details next week and after. I'll use OBRA-Chat as well as this blog as a landing page-- and others will use our Sellwood Cycle Repair socials on my behalf.
